Met Office forecast unseasonable UK weather with temperatures set to rocket

The Met Office has announced that Brits can look forward to a warm spell of 12C this weekend following bouts of heavy rain.

Forecasters predict that most of the south of England will enjoy temperatures of 12C on Saturday, with the rest of the UK also reaching double figures. However, today several weather warnings for rain are in place across the UK.

Up to 40mm of rain is expected across the southern Peak District and similar levels are anticipated on higher ground across south Wales. Southwestern areas, including Cornwall, Devon and parts of Dorset and Hampshire, are subject to another yellow weather warning.

After this, temperatures are set to rise and skies will clear. The Met Office's website states that from Friday to Sunday, it will "feel mild." It adds: "An unsettled end to the week with further heavy showers and rain. Often windy, but feeling mild when sheltered with temperatures climbing above average for the time of year."

Looking ahead to next week, the Met Office suggests: "Potential for a drier spell of weather to develop for a time around mid-month, particularly in the south, with frost and fog more prevalent. Overall, a relatively mild period for the UK, with above average temperatures more likely than not, especially so in the south and west."

The hottest spots this Saturday are expected to be Plymouth, Cardiff and London. The Met Office forecasts a cosy 12C for these cities and surrounding areas, but some weather experts reckon the temperature could even hit a balmy 16C – well above the norm for this time of year.
