Nan and grandad unwittingly roped into ‘Wetherspoons Game’ and end up hammered
2 min readAn innocent nan and grandad were unwittingly roped into Wetherspoons the Game by their grandson and ended up not knowing "what hit them" as their table was covered in alcoholic drinks.
Mark Hamlet from Sandbach, Cheshire, brought his nan and grandad to The George Inn for a "nightcap", but the elderly couple ended up being faced with pints, wine and even shots.
The game is a simple one. You go to your preferred ‘Spoons, settle in and send a picture of you and your table number to a Facebook group of devoted “Wetherspoons the Game!!” players and they send you anything from the menu for the duration you're at the pub.

But Mark's grandparents weren't aware of the game until they got there, and pictures from their crazy night last week show the pair looking confused, and then quite merry.
"Hey, brought nana and grandad out for their early night cap. Explained to them about the game… I know it works as I've given a few in past," Mark wrote on Facebook.
"Nana thinks she about to be cloned and pension account emptied. Let's show her we mean business. She's partial to a glass of malbec or merlot red. Grandad likes a pint!!! Nothing crazy guys I've gotta put them to bed. Table 15."
Then madness ensued and pictures were shared of the group's table covered in alcoholic drinks. "That's it folks… no more drink please. Got plenty," Mark soon pleaded. "Remember I'm putting them to bed!!!"

The post soon transcended social media sites and made it to X (formerly Twitter) where a bloke called Rob shared it and said "Nana doesn’t know what’s hit her."
He wrote: "Reason 52 why I can’t delete Facebook: a group called ‘Wetherspoons The Game!’ in which you put up a couple of photos of yourselves & explain the occasion, alongside the spoons you’re in.
"If you’ve got a good post, people will send you a drink. Nana doesn’t know what’s hit her."
