New weather map shows another wall of snow over UK after brief respite

2 min read

Snow is not over for the UK with another 300-mile wide wall of the white stuff set to hit the country just as some begin to recover from the last Arctic blast.

Weather maps from WXCharts show a foreboding phalanx of snow, marked in purple, stretching from the far north of Scotland right down to the English border due to arrive on Thursday December 7.

The deepest dumps of snow will be reserved for the Highlands but heavily populated areas around Edinburgh and Glasgow are also likely to see significant centimetres falling.

Snow has been heavier than predicted for the UK this weekend with several inches falling across England, Wales and Scotland, where in Altnaharra in the Highlands a bone-chilling -12.5C was recorded.

Elsewhere in Europe, Munich, in Germany, has seen its biggest winter blast since the 1930s with reports of planes being frozen to airport runways.

In Britain there will be a few days of warmer temperatures before the next onslaught arrives, but parts of the country are still recovering from the first batch of heavy snow.

Electricity North West has said 1,500 properties remained without power in Cumbria and the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of snow for higher parts of Wales and the Peak District from 6pm Sunday to 12pm on Monday.

The weather service said snow may lead to localised disruption with “some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services”.

The weather agency also issued a yellow weather warning for ice in the East Midlands, the West Midlands, the north of England, and much of north and central Wales from 5pm today to 12pm on Monday.

The UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office have issued amber cold health alerts in five regions, the East Midlands, West Midlands, North West, North East and Yorkshire and the Humber, until December 5, meaning “cold weather impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service for an extended period of time”.
