RiNo hot yoga studio, Allumen Yoga, closes after two years

2 min read

Allumen Yoga, an infrared hot yoga studio at the edge of RiNo, closed this weekend after two years of business.

Founder Madeleine Page said the studio at 2590 Lawrence St. hosted its last class Sunday, Sept. 24.

“It’s tough for small businesses always, but especially these days,” Page said.

Allumen, originally named Third Space Yoga, opened in the 3,000-square-foot space within the S*Park condominium complex in 2021. But, soon after opening, Page said she was hit with trademark infringement for the Third Space name.

“That left us without being able to put the word out about operations – dealing with the rebrand, and the after fact of the pandemic, it was slow growth,” Page said.

Page said the studio didn’t rebrand as Allumen until last November, and in between that time her founding partner left the business.

“We faced a lot of hurdles that in the end with this space we just weren’t able to overcome,” she said.

She said business was good after rebranding as Allumen, but she still owed back rent, and after the property was sold in March she wasn’t able to work out a deal with her new landlord.

“We began to see some really great growth, things are picking up, but with commercial real estate being as expensive as it is we weren’t able to recover from our back rent owed,” Page said.

The studio posted on Instagram in March forewarning of eviction and asked people to donate to it on GoFundMe, where it raised $6,741 of its $50,000 goal.

Page, who’s been teaching yoga for about a decade, said she doesn’t have a new location in mind but hopes the business will be able to reopen.

“It’s been a bit of an uphill battle but it’s still to me a success story,” Page said. “The human connection, our community, our teachers and everything that everyone was able to bring to the space just outweighs everything else.”

S*Park was built in 2018, and includes a mix of individually owned residential units and ground floor retail. Before Allumen moved in, the space was home to Lacuna Juice and Yoga, which closed in 2020 because of the pandemic.
