Driver dies in 3-vehicle crash involving dump truck in Aurora

A driver died in a three-vehicle crash in Aurora involving a dump truck, and the driver of an involved pickup truck was cited for right of way violation, police said.

The crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at East 11th Avenue and Piccadilly Street, the Aurora Police Department said in a news release.

The driver of a Ford F-150 was eastbound on 11th and attempted to turn onto Piccadilly when the pickup collided with a southbound Kenworth dump truck. The dump truck crossed into northbound lanes and hit a vehicle, police said.

The dump truck driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. The driver of the vehicle that was northbound on Piccadilly died at the crash scene.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck was cited for a right of way violation, police said. Piccadilly was closed for about four hours.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will identify the driver who died after family has been notified. An investigation is ongoing.
