British man dies after suffering cardiac arrest while paragliding

2 min read

A British man has died following a paragliding accident in Portugal.

Emergency services, including firefighters, rushed to the area after receiving a 999 call at approximately 9pm on July 4 from a local telling them a paraglider had crashed to the ground.

The victim had reportedly already gone into cardiac arrest when he was discovered in an area described as of “difficult access”.

Despite the assistance provided to him by medical experts, the man sadly died at the scene.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the unnamed man was in Portugal on holiday or whether he had made the country his home.

The crash took place in an area known as Vale Bom, a paradise for any nature lover located an hour drive north of Lisbon.

Speckled with windmills and sleepy villages, this is also a well-known wine region.

On Wednesday, authorities were investigating the cause of the accident.

One unconfirmed report said the man had been practising powered paragliding, also known as paramotoring, which sees the pilot wearing a back-pack motor providing enough thrust to take off using a paraglider.
