Tracking Colorado’s mass shootings: 61 have died in 12 incidents since 1993

4 min read

The shooting at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, remains the deadliest mass shooting in Colorado, with 13 killed and 24 injured. Twelve people died in the Aurora theater shooting July 20, 2012, and 70 were injured.

In the 12 mass shootings, defined here as incidents in which four or more people were killed or wounded in a public space, since 1993, 61 people have died and 160 have been injured. The gunmen are not included in the totals.

While mass shootings garner a lot of media attention, they account for only a small fraction of overall gun deaths.

A list follows the chart.
