Mum finds missing child in minutes after using ‘looking loudly’ search method

3 min read

After using a TikTok tip to find her missing three-year-old in a massive play area with "lots of little nooks and crannies,” an Ohio mum has shared the idea in hope of helping other parents.

Krista Piper, who chronicles her book-buying habit on TikTok as @krista.piper, explained that she had taken her kids to a vast play space that runs the entire length of a giant science museum.

One of her kids, three-year-old Lily, was really enjoying herself, going back back and forth between various barns and other attractions, while Krista chatted to another mum.

But suddenly, Krista realised that she’d lost sight of Lily. “All of a sudden, I don’t know where my three-year-old is,” she said.

She set off in what turned out to be the wrong direction in hope of finding the little girl and, as she “started to panic” Krista got Lily’s older brothers involved in the search.

At first, Krista was calling out Lily's name, but then a "lightbulb went off” in her head.

She suddenly remembered a TikTok video that she had seen a year before where a mum described how she had lost her child in a big supermarket but – rather than doing the obvious thing and shouting his name – she yelled a description of him.

That “looking loudly” method was much more efficient because it quickly enables other people get involved and help with the search.

"So that is what I did,” Krista said. “I stopped calling out her name, and I started yelling, 'little girl, pink shirt, pink Minnie Mouse shirt!'.

"I'm sure people thought that I was a little crazy, she was probably only missing for like a minute, to maybe a minute and a half, but for me it felt like eternity."

She added "If you ever lose your child, or dog or anything, yell out their description, raise your voice. You know, I probably looked like a crazy person, but it got the job done."

Over a thousand impressed TikTok users commented on Krista’ video, with one typical commenter saying: "Yes! Yelling their name doesn't help because no one knows what Sally looks like, but they can pick out a three-year-old in a pink shirt and blue jeans."
