Dad dies whilst snorkelling on Caribbean island

Local media said Mr Evans had only arrived that day on board a P&O Britannia cruise ship with his wife and daughter on a 14-day trip from Southampton to Barbados.

It is unclear whether he died of natural causes or drowned.

According to reports he was pulled from the water and had CPR performed on him by another tourist in a bid to save his life.

The Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force told the Mail: “Sometime after 10am police received a report from the St. Kitts-Nevis Coast Guard.

“Upon arrival, detectives met with members of the Coast Guard who escorted them to the pier where they saw the body of Mr Evans lying on his back.”

They added that investigations were ongoing.

This isn’t the first time a British tourist has suffered a fatal snorkelling accident in the Caribbean.

Earlier this month, 77-year-old Gareth Weekes died whilst on a sailing trip near St Vincent and the Grenadines.

In a statement, his eldest daughter Veryan Cranston, 49, said: “Dad died as he lived – taking risks, having adventures, exploring the world and approaching life with boundless enthusiasm and a gung-ho zest for new experiences.

“We are glad he was having those adventures right up till the end.”

Devonshire locals who knew the former editor of the Bournemouth Daily Echo said he would be a “huge loss to our community”.
