A glam Japanese foodie is now obsessed with roast dinners after experiencing a carvery for the first time.

Ariyo Fukui, 27, who moved from Tokyo to Bristol, fell in love with the British classic when her boyfriend took her to the Brent House Carvery in Highbridge, Somerset.

Ariyo was blown away by the meat, gravy and massive portions, taking to TikTok to debunk the myth that “British food is bland”, Somerset Live reports.

She said: “In Tokyo we have roast beef and roast chicken but it’s just a few slices of thin meat. I never knew a roast dinner had potatoes, veggies, stuffing and Yorkshire pudding.”

Prior to her move to Bristol last year, the 27-year-old had never tried a proper roast before.

In August, Ariyo's boyfriend took her to Somerset for her first Sunday roast, and it blew her mind.

She ordered lamb, beef, mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, cauliflower, broccoli, stuffing, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings.

She said: “In the summer my boyfriend took me to this carvery place. It was my first ever roast dinner in a restaurant. I was really impressed.

“The meat was nicely cooked, the potatoes were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I loved the big portion of vegetables.”

Ariyo is used to helping her boyfriend’s mum cook roast dinners, but admits she’s run into difficulty cooking a roast herself.

She explained: “It’s a bit difficult to make. It’s a lot of effort to cook all the different components.”

Ariyo has taken to her social media to share her newfound love for British food, having tried fish and chips, scones and biscuits dunked in tea.

She said on TikTok: "Before I moved to the UK people told me British food is rubbish. And then I actually fell in love with a carvery. I'll definitely be having a roast dinner at Christmas, I can't wait!"
