Shocking new footage has emerged showing a group of motorists stopping a potential child abduction.

The incident took place at a BP petrol station on the A2 in Whitfield, around 7.30am yesterday.

According to Kent Online, a man, who has now been arrested for allegedly trying to steal the car, was wrestled to the floor after attempting to abduct a child in a car.

The mother of the boy, who has autism, ran out to the car screaming for help when she saw someone had got into the driving seat of the car. It is not clear where she had gone at the time. The man in question has not been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping.

A group grabbed the man, and tied his hands with cable ties.

One woman, who is wearing a hi-vis McDonald's jacket in the video, is seen securing the ties, before he is turned over and forced to sit up.

He can be heard screaming throughout the entire video.

Police later arrived at the scene, and officers confirmed to Kent Online that he was arrested, and remains in custody.

The mum, who has not been named, said: “I was in the shop and ran out to get my son out of the car.

“I got my son out and screamed for help. My son is nine and has autism.

“He sat there, watching me pull my son from the car while I was screaming for help – I have no idea what he wanted as he didn't speak to me or my son.

“It is terrifying, I honestly have never felt so scared.”
