Arthur Labinjo-Hughes’ killers seen enjoying hot tub weeks before horror death

2 min read

The couple who killed six-year-old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes after a campaign of "evil abuse" have been pictured relaxing in a garden hot tub just weeks before his death.

Emma Tustin, 32, and Thomas Hughes, 29, from Solihull in the West Midlands, posted pictures of themselves on Instagram lapping up the sun during the spring heatwave last year.

During the same heatwave, Arthur was forced to stand for hours in the house, sweltering in a fluffy onesie, and confined to a "thinking step" in the hall, Coventry Crown Court heard.

Tustin showcased the couple's indulgent garden lifestyle online just six weeks before Arthur was killed.

Along with the hot tub, they also bought a netted gazebo and a £350 double hanging chair so they could make the most of the good weather.

Less than a month before killing the boy Tustin also bragged online about buying a games console and new Nike Air trainers in an early birthday "treat".

Following their trial, Tustin was found guilty of murder on Friday. She was sentenced to life with a minimum prison term of 29 years.

Hughes was sentenced to 21 years for manslaughter.

As the horrific abuse was detailed in court, it was revealed that Arthur had been poisoned, starved and beaten by his father and his father's girlfriend.

The Attorney General's Office has since confirmed that the sentences will be reviewed.

This comes after Tustin's former cellmate claimed that the killer never mentioned the dead boy whilst she was awaiting trial.

Elaine Pritchard was locked up with Tustin for six weeks at Eastwood Park Prison in Gloucestershire, and said the only time Tustin shed a tear while on remand was after Hughes ignored her at a hearing.

Pritchard told the Sunday Mirror: "Emma hadn't said anything about Arthur dying. She never mentioned him.

"She always felt sorry for herself."

Tustin allegedly told fellow inmates that she was locked up because Hughes had "neglected" his son.
