At least two people have been found dead in the flat of a man aiming a crossbow from his balcony.
Police confirmed shortly after midday that two people had died and a third was injured in the incident on Friday morning.
Images claiming to be of the suspect have, been circulating on social media as he leans over his balcony on Steynstraat, a side-street in the town centre of Almelo in the Netherlands.
Police added that the suspect who was pictured armed and topless by concerned members of the public, has been arrested and had sustained injuries.
Unconfirmed reports from local media suggest armed police responded to the scene and fired shots at a suspect and that a body was discovered inside the home.
Earlier on Friday morning, the police tweeted a situation was ongoing involving armed officers in Almelo and warned the public not to come near the scene.
Local media reports which have not been confirmed by Dutch authorities claim armed police shot the suspect and a body was discovered inside the home.
Police updated the public over Twitter at 10am on Friday morning to say armed officers were responding to an incident in Almelo.
Their tweet also urged the public to stay away, the Independent reports.
How the two fatalities died has not been explained by police, as some reports suggest that rather than being shot dead with an arrow, they were stabbed.
The stabbing suspect is the same as the man who showed off the weapon from his balcony.
Dutch media reported six ambulances and several more police cars arrived at the block of flats where it is understood the two dead bodies were found inside.
