Outraged royal fans voiced their ire after TIME magazine included Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on its new list of the world's most influential people.
An airbrushed new photoshoot heralded the couple as among the world's TIME 100 list of global influencers, leading royal experts and fans alike to take to Twitter.
Colin Brazier began the dissent, attaching a simple caption to a screenshot of the new cover: "Give me strength."
Angela Levin replied: "Surely not on the value of the family and family values. Or doesn't that count."
User @stavnsgaard6 wrote: "I can’t think of one single thing they influenced for good. This is one of the most ridiculous covers I’ve seen on TIME."
Another, @daysfanla, added: "All H&M have done is attack the family that gave them everything they have, including the platform they used for the attack.
"Disgraceful. Who have they influenced?"
World-famous chef José Andrés wrote an essay gushing about the couple to accompany their entry in the prestigious listing.
He wrote: "In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the duke and duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know.

"They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle.
"They turn compassion into boots on the ground through their Archewell Foundation. They give voice to the voiceless through media production.
"Hand in hand with non-profit partners, they take risks to help communities in need—offering mental-health support to Black women and girls in the U.S., and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean."
That wasn't enough to convince many Palace defenders on Twitter, who expressed bafflement and fury in equal measure.
User @kaywriter added: "How in the heck did that happen? Unfortunately, it's more sad than laughable."
And @windship211 summarised the feelings of anti-Sussexers nicely, writing: "Influential about how not to behave".
