Matt Hancock has apologised for breaching social distancing rules after snogging his millionaire aide Gina Coladangelo.

The Health Secretary is accused of having an affair with the lobbyist and wife of the founder of Oliver Bonas.

He said he "has let people down and is very sorry" and "would be grateful for privacy on this personal matter".

The senior minister said: "I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances.

"I have let people down and am very sorry.

"I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter."

The married Health Secretary was captured locked in a steamy embrace with Gina Coladangelo in his Whitehall office.

Hancock hired the 43-year-old with taxpayer's cash last year as coronavirus swept the nation.

According to The Sun, a whistleblower has accused the Health Secretary of cheating on his wife of 15 years, Martha Hoyer Millar, as the UK continues to fight the Covid pandemic.

A friend of the Health Secretary had told The Mirror: “He has no comment on personal matters. No rules have been broken.”

But a Whitehall source told The Sun Hancock's behaviour "in the middle of a pandemic with an adviser and friend he used public money to hire” is shocking.

The embattled Health Secretary was already under severe pressure after damning evidence from former Number 10 spin doctor Dominic Cummings revealed that Boris Johnson branded Mr Hancock "totally f***ing useless" during the early stages of Covid last year.

The Health Secretary was also accused of lying about PPE provisions, failing care homes and overseeing the extraordinarily costly and failing Test and Trace system.
