The hot weather is set to continue this weekend as sunshine and high temperatures will bathe much of the UK in sweltering high twenties. BBC Breakfast’s Matt TaylorThere will be outbreaks of rain in Northern Scotland and Northern Ireland but for many Saturday will remain very warm. Sunday is set to get even hotter with London forecast to be a sweltering 28 in London while it will be 27 in Birmingham. It will be warm and humid nights through the weekend and into next week before the weather is expected to get cooler and fresher at the end of next week.

BBC weather presenter Matt Taylor said: “There will be a few cloudier spots today, Northern Ireland, plenty of cloud, the odd glimmer of sunshine, same too in western Scotland.

“At the moment we have a lot low cloud through the English Channel but that should shift and break.

“And really for many into the afternoon, some longer sunny spells for the vast majority.

“Some longer sunny spells through Saturday afternoon.”

Saturday will see highs of 25 in London, 23 in Cardiff, 21 in Plymouth, 21 in Hull and 19 in Aberdeen.

Mr Taylor added how through Saturday night and into Sunday morning there will be starry skies across much of England Wales.

He said: “Temperatures could get down into single figures across some central and eastern parts but in the west, the start of that more humid feel.

“That is because with the high pressure still to the south of us and another area of low pressure pushing up towards Iceland.”

“Coming all the way from the mid Atlantic, that is what lifts the humidity levels across the country.

“It will feel humid on Sunday with outbreaks of sunshine.

Sunday will be a humid day with temperatures set to be a sweltering 28 in London, 27 in Birmingham, 26 in Aberdeen 25 in Cardiff and 24 in Newcastle. 

He added: “A very warm evening to come through Sunday evening but we will see some rain arrive across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

“There could be a few thundery showers break out though parts of Southern Scotland,  Northern Ireland, northern England as we go through Sunday night.”

Sunday night will be a very hot and sticky night as the humidity from the Atlantic will mean sleeping is harder.

Over the next few days of next week the UK could see temperatures of 30 degrees before becoming “fresher” and temperatures dropping towards the end of the week.

Monday will see temperatures of 29 degrees in London, 24 in Cardiff, 16 in Edinburgh and 17 in Belfast.
