Royal Family hasn’t contacted Meghan since Oprah interview, pal Gayle King says

The Royal Family has not spoken to Meghan Markle since last week's bombshell interview, Oprah Winfrey's pal Gayle King claims.

The US breakfast show host says the Palace has taken its first steps towards a reconciliation with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with Harry having spoken to both Prince William and Prince Charles.

However she says these talks were "not productive", and Meghan has not been approached by any of the royals yet.

Gayle suggested that despite the conversations not bearing fruit, the Sussexes were "glad" dialogue had started.

After their interview with Oprah was screened in the UK last Monday, the Queen said in a statement that the issues raised would be "addressed by the family privately".

The couple had accused an unnamed royal, not the Queen or the Duke of Edinburgh, of raising concerns about how dark their then-unborn son Archie's skin tone would be.

Meghan revealed she asked for help when she was suicidal, but said the institution gave her no support.

Gayle King, a close friend of Oprah, told CBS on Tuesday: "I'm not trying to break news, but I did actually call them to see how they were feeling and it's true Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father too.

"The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive but they are glad that they have at least started a conversation.

"And I think what is still upsetting to them is that the Palace keeps saying they want to work it out privately, but yet they believe these false stories are coming out that are very disparaging against Meghan still – no one in the Royal Family has talked to Meghan yet…"

Buckingham Palace has been approached for comment.

Harry claimed his brother and father were "trapped" in the monarchy by their royal responsibilities during the interview with Oprah.

The formerly close brothers are now on "different paths", the Duke added, saying their relationship was one of "space".

After the interview aired, William said he would be speaking to his brother when quizzed by journalists at a visit to a school.
