A mum-of-eight has been forced to divide her house in two after being struck down with Coronavirus and forced to isolate upstairs – while her children have free reign downstairs.
Marie Buchan fell ill with Covid-19 last weekend and tested positive for the virus on Monday January 4, 2021 – with her condition quickly worsening.
The 38-year-old experienced breathlessness, coughing fits and a sore throat after falling victim to the virus – and is isolating at her home in Selly Oak, south-west Birmingham.
Ms Buchan’s eldest daughter, who is 18, has also tested positive for the Covid-19 virus and is also isolating upstairs while the other children gather together downstairs.
Ms Buchan discussed her unique upstairs/downstairs scenario with BirminghamLive – with the proud mum explaining how impressed she is with the way her children, whose ages range from six to 18, have reacted to her situation.
She explained: "It is just a complete nightmare. I feel absolutely awful. I started getting symptoms on Saturday like a sore throat and started to feel breathless but I didn't think it was Covid at first.
"I was advised by my doctor to get a test which i did on the Monday and it proved to be positive for Covid.

"I am now isolating upstairs in my bedroom. I have gradually felt worse and worse over the last few days.
"As well as the sore throat, breathlessness and coughing fits i have had several nose bleeds which i never normally get.
"My eldest daughter who is 18 is also unwell. It is a complete nightmare as my children are downstairs and i can hear the youngest one crying for me but i can't risk any of them catching it.
"Fortunately the older children have really stepped up to the plate and have been helping with everything. They have been bringing me food upstairs and leaving it outside my door.”
She continued: "I have been told i have to isolate for 10 days which could increase to another 10 days if i am still displaying symptoms.

"I have been speaking to track and trace a lot. You are trying to remember everywhere you have been and people you have come into contact with. "
Ms Buchan’s predicament is made worse by the fact she has six children who require home schooling – and one other is studying a college course.
She explained: "It is just impossible at the moment to carry out home schooling. The school has rung for me but i am just not in a position at the moment to enforce any of it. The whole situation is just a nightmare at the moment."
