Sky Bet suspends bloke’s account for joke about losing his imaginary kids’ cash

2 min read

A bloke’s ‘off-hand’ joke about spending his ‘kids’ money’ ruined his Christmas – because Sky Bet banned him from gambling.

Morgan Thomas Gibson, 23, loves a flutter and had planned to use his betting app on Boxing Day.

But he was fuming to find himself locked out his account only hours after making a gag during a live roulette game.

The punter shared an exchange with a customer service rep and has amassed a massive 43,700 like for his interaction – but Twitter can’t decide who is in the wrong.

Morgan said: “I messaged Sky at 12.40am on the 26th, essentially Christmas Day night.

“I have been a member with Sky Bet for a few years and I use it every week.

“But at around 12.30am, I realised it wasn’t working and wouldn’t let me log in.”

The case manager said he contacted Sky Bet through their live chat support to get to the bottom of what went on.

They informed him that the account had been suspended because he had joked: “Just lost the kids' Christmas money on red” during a live casino chat.

The customer support representative questioned Morgan over whether his comment had been genuine, to which the young man explained that they weren't – and that he does not even have children.

He said: “Sky wanted me to set a deposit limit to reopen my account. They then reopened my account.

“It ruined Christmas because we couldn’t carry on playing Sky casino roulette.

"I was so shocked with the whole experience that I thought I would share the post on Twitter to show others what had happened.”

Social media users rushed to share their thoughts, with some commenting you can't "have a laugh anymore" while others were happy the account was suspended.

One Twitter user wrote: “It’s crazy the world today. You are not even allowed to have a laugh anymore! It’s pathetic this world….. F*** ‘em!”

Someone else added: “I’m glad they suspended it. Who even says that about kids' Xmas money. More fool you.”

Another person wrote: “Be careful what you say. It may be all jokes but they have to deal with gambling addicts on a daily basis, they're only trying to protect you and your prospects.

"Gambling addiction is no joke and has ruined many lives.”

And some people even claimed that similar incidents had happened to them.

One person wrote: "This happened to me. Said on tombola chat hurry up and give me a win otherwise I won't be able to feed my son and they took it deadly serious, and now I it just says I am banned from the chat room for inappropriate behaviour!!! What's innopropriate about that." [sic]
