Denver weather: Near record warmth, high winds ahead

1 min read

Denver will near a record high Tuesday, but the wind will dominate the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Denver expects a high temperature of 61 degrees under clear skies. The record high for Dec. 22 was hit in 2005 at 64 degrees. The metro area should stay under that mark.

It will still be an eventful weather day. A southwest breeze that gusts up to 24 mph will only increase overnight as gusts could reach near 50 mph in the city. Temperatures will drop into the teens Tuesday night .

Around the state, northeast and north-central Colorado could see gusts near 70 mph. The strong west and northwest winds will develop light to moderate snow in the mountains creating hazardous driving conditions.

Another round of strong winds may affect the foothills Wednesday and downtown as gusts near 35 mph from the northwest. The mostly sunny day will hover around freezing at 32 degrees.

Temperatures will drop into the teens overnight as the wind sticks around until Thursday. Christmas Eve will finally see the wind progressively die down throughout the day as the high will near 50 under pristine skies.

There is no snow in the forecast for Christmas.
