During an interview with, Tony Miklinski stated that the Labour Party took their previously strong support in Scotland for granted. The Scottish Tory added that Labour has lost the core of their support in Scotland and labelled the party’s leadership as weak. 

Mr Miklinski said: “I think they are lost, the Labour Party is lost in Scotland.

“They do not know what they stand for anymore.

“They were so complacent and took things for granted that they have lost their core support.

“They took for granted that they would hold a huge majority in Scotland.

“Now that they are trying to pick things up, they can’t make their mind up if they are pro or anti-Scottish independence.”

He added: “With the weak leadership they have got I do not see the Labour Party featuring strongly at all.

“I can not see a recovery plan that takes them back into the fight in Scotland.”

Mr Miklinski also stated that the Scottish Labour Party are looking at his party “with envy” regarding their recent leadership change.

He told that several Labour councillors have voiced their desire to replace Richard Leonard with a new leader.

Mr Miklinski said: “I have had several Labour councillors say to me, I wish we could do what you the Conservatives have done in Scotland.

“We have had a fairly swift, painless, mutual consent change of leadership.

“The Labour Party are looking at us with envy I believe because Richard Leonard has had enough time.

“He does not have the leadership quality, he does not have the charisma.

“He is a quiet man by nature, I think he is a decent man, but he does not convince me.”

The Scottish Conservative councillor added: “So I think the Labour Party are probably stuffed.”
