Jeremy Corbyn has been reinstated into Labour 19 days after being suspended and having the whip withdrawn following comments he made in the wake of the EHRC’s report on anti-Semitism in the party. He has clarified that he does not believe that concerns about anti-Semitism are “exaggerated or overstated”, however, there is no confirmation on whether he is also returning to the parliamentary Labour Party. Marie van der Zyl, President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, warned the BBC’s Today show that current leader Sir Keir Starmer had to take a tougher approach to his predecessor.
She told Radio 4: “I think the decision to reinstate Jeremy Corbyn is an absolute sham.
“It clearly shows that at the present time the Labour Party, having been ordered to implement an independent process by the EHRC report, have not learned anything at all.
“This goes against everything that is in the EHRC report.
“I hope this morning that Keir Starmer will have reflected on what has happened yesterday and make it clear that he is refusing to restore the whip.”
