Sir Patrick Vallance and Professor Chris Whitty were unexpectedly in the firing line of the NHS Chief Executive at the latest coronavirus briefing. Sir Simon Stevens joined Boris Johnson to update the nation on the most recent COVID-19 statistics as well as the national strategy to tackle the virus. However, Sir Simon took the opportunity to make a jab at the other senior scientific advisers, who have been accused of using “confusing” graphs and charts.
He told viewers: “Like you, and I’m sure the PM won’t mind me saying so, I’ve watched a number of these press briefings and the charts can be a bit hard to keep up with.
“So I’ve just got one chart today that indisputably sets out what we in the health service are seeing.
“So if we could have that one chart, please.
“What it shows is the number of patients that are being looked after in hospitals across England.”
