Prince Harry and William have just ‘5 months to heal rift’ before Megxit review

Prince Harry and Prince William have just "five months" to "heal their rift" ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex' 12-month Megxit review, a royal expert has claimed.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will face the Royal Family in March 2021 to set in stone their new working relationship, a year after the couple stepped down as senior members of the Firm.

It has been reported Prince William will takeover Prince Harry's coveted role as Captain General of Royal Marines, a move Royal biographer Robert Lacey told Newsweek will make the brother's relationship irreparable.

Mr Lacey said the review will either go in the direction of "compromise" or "reconciliation," but if William takes the Harry's former role it would "be the end of it."

Robert, who is the author of Battle of Brothers, a new book that examines the rift between the two Dukes, told Newsweek: "There have been stories that it's going to be assigned to William.

"Were that to be the case, that would be the end of it."

He added: "Either it goes in the direction of some sort of compromise or reconciliation or there has to be some break."

Mr Lacey also said he believes Prince William should address whether he will accepting the role publicly as there hasn't been a word from the Royals.

The author said: "There has been no statement from William addressing what's happened.

"I think he should address it publicly."

It comes as military insiders told the Daily Express: "The decision has been made to invite Prince William to take over this important duty, largely on the basis that the Duke of Sussex has given no reason to believe that he will alter current arrangements. Quite the opposite, in fact."

The Duke of Sussex was handed the role by the Queen in December 2017, succeeding the Duke of Edinburgh, after a long military career.

Prince Harry had publicly said he was "devastated" to have to stand down from his role in the military as he felt like he had "let people down."

During his speech at the festival, Harry said: "I am so proud to have served as the Royal Marines Captain and am devastated that I am having to step down.

"I feel I'm letting people down, but I had no choice."
