The man killed during a fight in a hotel parking lot in May was identified Thursday as 44-year-old Jose Esquivel-Flores, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

Flores was attacked May 18 by a man who was staying in the same room as him at the Western Motor Inn in the 4700 block of Vasquez Boulevard, according to the Denver Police Department. That man, Edgar Trujillo, 25, was arrested on the night of the killing and has been charged with second-degree murder.

A third man who was also sharing the room told police officers that he saw Trujillo strike Flores in a parking lot outside the hotel, saw Flores fall and then saw Trujillo punch Flores at least three times.

Flores died from complications from blunt force trauma, according to the medical examiner’s office.
